Philippine Consulate General Prays for Safety of Filipinos in American Samoa

 

2 October 2009 - The Philippine Consulate General extends its offer of support to the 3,000 Filipinos living in American Samoa. who were hit by tsunami following a 7.9 magnitude earthquake on Tuesday, 29 September 2009. It extends its deepest condolences to the family of Ms. Godofreda Parma who died when tidal waves washed her home to the sea.


The Filipino Community through Mr. Eniego Loredo, President, Filipino Community of American Samoa and Mr. Ariel Niedo continue to provide information on the flight of Filipinos in American Samoa through twitter as regular communication services have yet to be restored. Mr. Niedo wrote that Filipinos in American Samoa are fine. “Tsunami brought water into a few Filipino homes, so they are wet, but are fine. No problem.”

Consul General Leoncio R. Cardenas welcomes the news that Filipinos in American Samoa are out of harm’s way. “We offer our prayers to them, for their continued safety, and also to the people of American Samoa, to Mayor Muffi Hannemann and his family and relatives in Pago-Pago. We hope to extend our support to the relief efforts here in Hawaii for the people of Samoa.”
