The Philippine Consulate General is pleased to announce the arrival of H.E. Leoncio R. Cardenas to assume post as the new Consul General of the Philippines to Hawaii.
A native of Badoc, Ilocos Norte, Consul General Cardenas described himself as a “balikbayan” in Hawaii
having been assigned here in 1984 from the Philippine Embassy in Washington as a young Foreign Service Officer. His main priorities as Consul General include further improving the Consulate’s services and continuing its good relations with the Filipino-American Community in the islands.
He arrived in Honolulu on 29 July 2009, from Dili, East Timor where he was posted since 2008 as Philippine Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary. The Philippines, a founding member of the Association of Southeast Asian Nation (ASEAN), is a major supporter of East Timor as a newly-established, free and democratic nation in the region.
Consul General Cardenas is a well-respected, experienced, Senior Diplomat of the Philippine Foreign Service. His previous foreign assignments include postings at the Philippine Embassies in WashingtonDC, Ottawa, Canada, and Brasilia, Brazil and at the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco. At the Department of Foreign Affairs, he last served as Assistant Secretary of the Office of American Affairs.
