Major General Juancho Sabban Talks to Veterans at Kagitingan event in Honolulu

9 April 2010. Philippine Marines Commandant Major General Juancho Sabban attended the 68th Araw ng Kagitingan Rites, held on 9 April 2010 at the NationalMemorialCemetery of the Pacific at Punchbowl, Honolulu. As part of the Kagitingan rites, he offered a Wreath at the Philippine Memorial  Marker.  Distinguished guests who also lay wreaths at the marker were  Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle, Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann,  US PACOM Chief of Staff, Major General Peter Pawling, Vice Admiral Ferdinand Golez, Flag Officer-in-Command, Philippine Navy, Major General Diosdado Tabamo, the Consular Corps, the Filipino Community and the Fil-AM veterans groups.

The marker,  a rock taken from the historic Malinta Tunnel in Bataan, was installed in 2006 during the visit of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo in commemoration of the 60th Anniversary of Philippine-Ameican Friednship and dedicated to the valor and sacrifices of Filipino and American soldiers who fought together during World War II in defense of freedom and democracy and as a tribute to the enduring partnership between the Philippines and the United States.    
 


MGen Sabban took the opportunity to talk to Filipino-American veterans groups including the WW II Fil-Am Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary, Hawaii Chapter, the Philippine Scout Veterans Organization of Hawaii, the First Filipino Infantry, US Army and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
