According to historical reports, in the 17th Century, coastal communities in Northern Luzon were prone to attacks from pirates. But in a place now known as Santiago , a statue of San Tiago (St. James) facing the sea was placed and that said place was spared from pirates. In Honolulu , an estimated 200 people list Santiago as their place of birth.
