Hawaii Governor Linda Lingle Honors WWII Filipino-American Veterans at Kagitingan Rites

9 April 2010.    “It is our obligation and privilege to honor our World War II veterans,” Govenor Lingle highlighted in her remarks at the “68th Araw ng Kagitingan” rites held on 9 April 2010 at the NationalCemetery of the Pacific, Punchbowl, Honolulu.   
 
She acknowledged the presence of the Filipino-American veterans of World War II who faithfully attend the annual Day of Valor rites in commemoration of the courage and bravery of the more than 75,000 Filipino  and American soldiers including the 10,000 fallen soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in  defending the Philippines in a period of foreign aggression culminating in the fall of Bataan and the Death March in April 1942.


 
She joined Honolulu Mayor Mufi Hannemann,  Major General Peter Pawling, Chief of Staff, US PACOM, Vice Admiral Ferdinand Golez, Flag Officer-in-Command, Philippine Navy, Major General Juancho Sabaan, Commandant, Philippine Marines,  the Consular Corps, Major General Diosdado Tabamo, and Filipino Community Leaders in laying a wreath at the Philippine Memorial Marker as a salute to valor,  installed in 2006 on the occasion of the 60th Anniversary of Philippine – American Friendship. 
 
At the end of the ceremony, Governor Lingle met with the WW II Fil-Am Veterans and Ladies Auxiliary, Hawaii Chapter, the Philippine Scout Veterans Organization of Hawaii, the First Filipino Infantry, US Army and the Veterans of Foreign Wars who gratefully expressed their appreciation to Governor Lingle for attending the memorial rites.
