Filipino Community to Commemorate "Araw ng Kagitingan" on 09 April 2010 at Punchbowl

The Filipino-American Community in Honolulu extends its invitation to all Filipinos and American veterans in its commemoration of the 68th Anniversary of the “Araw ng Kagitingan” or “Day of Valor,”  on Friday, 9 April 2010, 4:00-5:00 p.m. at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific (NMCP).    

“Araw ng Kagitingan” is a memorial ceremony honoring Filipino-American veterans of World War II and held on the anniversary of the fall of Bataan, which culminated in the surrender of more than 75,000 Filipino and American troops, and the Bataan Death March, which claimed nearly 10,000 Filipino and American lives in April 1942.

Attendees of this commemoration will include the WWII Fil-Am Veterans Ladies Auxiliary, Hawaii Chapter, the Philippine Scout Veterans Organization of Hawaii, the First Filipino Infantry, US Army,  the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Hawaii and City of Honolulu Officials, Legislators and leaders of the Filipino Community. 


The U.S. Pacific Command, the National Guard and the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific are providing valuable support and assistance to this event. 

The Philippine Celebrations Coordinating Committee of Hawaii and Metrobank are the major sponsors of the event. END.
