13 January 2010. The Filipino Community extends its Congratulations to Councilman Romy Cachola for receiving the prestigious “18 December Awards”, a special Award created in 2008 by the Office of the President and the Inter-Agency Committee for the Celebration of the Month of Overseas Filipinos and International Migrants Day to honor Filipinos who have done exemplary work in the promotion of the rights of Filipino workers overseas. From thousands of nominations from Filipinos all over the world and vetted under very demanding criteria, Councilman Cachola was among the five recipients of the Award given by the Philippine Migrants Rights Watch and the Commission of Filipinos Overseas.
Consul General Leoncio R. Cardenas in a statement said: “We are very proud of Councilman Cachola. In the past thirty years, his dedication and advocacy in the promotion of the rights of Filipino veterans, the sacadas, nurses and those in other professions, as a legislator, public servant and community leader, have earned him not only the immense gratitude of the Filipino community but also the respect of the larger community in Honolulu.
